Vidyasagar University

Vidyasagar University also known as V.U. is a Public University in the town of Rangamati, Medinipur, West Bengal. Vidyasagar University was established by an Act of the West Bengal legislature, which was notified in the Calcutta Gazette on 24 June 1981. The man behind the foundation of the university was the mathematician and statistician from the University of Cambridge, Prof. Anil Kumar Gayen.

The U.G.C. accorded recognition has been awarded to the university as per Section 12B of the U.G.C. Act. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded Vidyasagar University a three-star status with a ‘B’ grade.

The University houses 27 PG departments, 12 in Humanities and 15 in Science while 46 undergraduate colleges apart from 11 courses in yet another 11 colleges/institutes are affiliated to it. Fourteen vocational subjects and six other specialized courses are offered at the UG level. The courses are divided into the departments of Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Commerce.

Vidya Sagar University offers various courses at the undergraduate level. The basic eligibility is to have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam in the relevant subjects. Candidates can fill and submit the applications online.

 Vidya Sagar University offers postgraduate B.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees to candidates every year. To apply, Candidate can register through the online application process available at the university website for admission to B.Ed. program.

Vidya Sagar University offers many courses in the Ph.D. department. The basic eligibility for Ph.D. programs is to have a Master’s degree in the relevant field.

The University has an eco-friendly plastic-free campus, together with administrative departments, postgraduate departments, hostel buildings, residential accommodation, playground, student amenity center, etc.  The equipment, machinery, and ICT facilities are also available at the University campus.

The number of affiliated colleges is 54 and the subjects offered in the undergraduate colleges cover the traditional subject as well as modern. The Postgraduate studies are conducted not only in University departments but also in 24 affiliated colleges.
