Thapar University Admission Process

After applying for the university, the admission process begins. The steps are given below:

  • Entrance Test for B.E./B.Tech (Lateral Entry), M.E./M.Tech. (only for programs offered by CSED, ECED, CED and MED) and Ph.D. are conducted offline
  • The Admit Cards for offline entrance test shall be sent to registered email IDs
  • After registering, the candidate must take out two printouts of ‘Admit Card”, paste latest photographs on each and bring it along at the time of the entrance test. Along with the admit card the candidates also need to carry an identity proof.
  • The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their merit in entrance test. The list will be displayed on the university’s website.
  • The selected candidates need to deposit the total fee using challan form by the last day failing which his/her candidature will stand cancelled.
  • For BE and B.Tech courses, the university conducts in-person counselling. It is essential for the eligible candidates to be present in the counselling.
  • A candidate needs to bring the original certificates on the scheduled date of counselling/admission.
  • The allotment of discipline at the time of counselling/admission will be made on the basis of the seats available in a particular discipline and category at that time, the order of preference for various disciplines given by the candidate, and his/her merit according to TU rank.
  • In case of any seat(s) falling vacant during the first or subsequent counselling, the seat(s) that are vacated will be filled up during the subsequent counselling.
  • After seat allotment, the candidate needs to submit the admission fee and the semester fee. It can be done online or offline. 

Thapar University Application Process

Aspirants must follow the steps below for applying to Thapar University:

  • Login to the official website of the university to fill up the online application form
  • Click on “Apply Online” link on home page of Thapar University website
  • From the window that has opened, choose the programme of your interest. Make sure to go through the ‘Eligibility’, ‘How to Apply’ and ‘Apply Now’ tabs. 
  • Click on ‘Create New Account’ tab and fil in the details to create a unique ‘Username’ and ‘Password’. These will be used while logging in.
  • Login with your ‘Username’ and ‘Password’. Fill in the Personal Details, Academic Details, choose the preferences of the programs, upload your recent photograph & signature, and then ‘Submit’ the application form.
  • Pay the Application Fee through the Payment Gateway (online mode) or through Demand Draft (offline mode). (Application Fee is ?1,500/- for all programs except M.Sc. and M.A. and ?1,000/- for M.Sc. and M.A. programs).
  • If the application form has been filled online and the fees has been duly paid, then the candidate will receive the confirmation e-mail regarding the acceptance of the online application
  • If the application form has been submitted offline, then the candidate will receive the confirmation letter after University receives the duly filled application form along with DD through registered post/courier/ speed post at ‘In-charge Admission Cell’ Thapar University, Patiala (Punjab)-147 004.’

Thapar University Ph.D. Admission

Thapar University offers Ph.D courses under various specializations. Part-time PhD. course is also available for professionally employed students.

To be eligible for taking up the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, the aspirant must have obtained Masters in cognate field or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 6.00 on a 10-point scale or 55% marks aggregate. The aspirant will also be considered if they’ve qualified NET.

Admission is done on the basis of entrance test and interview conducted by the University. Candidates must secure 20% marks in the written exam to be called for interview.

Thapar University PG Admission

Thapar University (TU) offers Master of Technology (M.Tech) courses in seven disciplines and ME courses in fourteen disciplines. Both the courses are offered for a period of two years in four semesters. Admissions to these courses are done on the basis of the rank achieved by entrance examinations.

The University also offers MBA and prefer students who’ve given CAT/ GMAT/MAT/ XAT/ CMAT.

Candidates who’ve qualified GATE with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) aggregate in the qualifying examination from a recognized university are not required to go through the entrance test and are given preference. 1% seats are reserved for children of employees at the university. 5 seats in each regular discipline of ME/MTech programme are reserved for Foreign Nationals and NRI candidates.

Thapar University (TU) UG Admission

Thapar University (TU) offers B.Tech/ BE, integrated BE-MBA and TCD in almost all the major professional specializations. TCD is a four years undergraduate credit transfer International Engineering program. It focuses on delivering research inspired, outcome based educational experience.

TU doesn’t conduct entrance exams for admitting students to 1st year of any UG program. Admissions to UG programme is done as per merit list prepared by the university on the basis of the marks secured by the candidate in JEE (Main). For admission to B.Tech (Bio-Technology), the admission is done as per merit prepared by the university taking NEET score into consideration.

Admission to second year of BE/B.Tech lateral entry would be through an offline test conducted by Thapar University known as Lateral Entry Entrance Test (LEET) for Diploma in Engineering/ B.Sc. (Non-Medical) candidates.

All the B.Tech courses would be for duration of four years. Integrated BE-MBA course would be for five years.

Thapar University Admission 2017

Thapar University, formerly known as Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is a deemed university established in 1956. Located in Patiala, the university has been accredited Grade ‘A’ by NAAC. The university is also UGC approved. It offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes in streams like Management, Science, Engineering, Social Science, Mathematics, etc. Most of the UG courses are for a duration of 4 years and PG courses are for a duration of 2 years.

The admission form is available on the official website of the university.
