Pondicherry University

Pondicherry University is a public University which was established in the year 1985 with the mission of “Expansion, Excellence and Equity”. Pondicherry University has Dr. Anisa Basheer Khan as its Vice- Chancellor.  Pondicherry University offers Postgraduate and Doctoral education through regular as well as distance learning mode in the Faculty of Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering Technology, Fine Arts, Law, Management and Medicine. This is an affiliating University which has jurisdiction spread over the territories of Puducherry, Lakshwadeep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This University provides free education to all the differently-abled students and even offers rent-free accommodation to all the girl students.

In case of PG programs, scholarships are provided by Pondicherry University to the deserving candidates who score highest percentage in the entrance examination and those who secure excellent marks in semester examination. In case of Research courses, fellowships are offered by the University as well as the Government of Pondicherry.

Pondicherry University offers a wide array of infrastructural facilities to its students which include a day care centre, auditorium, bank, book shop, guest house, gymnasium, health centre, canteen and even a shopping complex. The University library is renowned for its disabled friendly modern infrastructure spread on a large area of 80,000 sq. ft. The library is fully air-conditioned, WIFI enabled and there are services for the Visually Challenged among the proactive services with RFID technology and 24/7 remote access to a collection of 4.67 lakhs, of which print is 2.17 and 2.5 lakhs of e-resources (e-books, e-journals, e-databases, e-theses, Academic Online Videos, Video Talks etc.)

The University has three off-campus centres in Karaikal, Port Blair and a Community College Campus at Lawspet. 

This University conducts all India level entrance exams for many of its P.G. courses and the results are declared usually in about 10 days and following that, merit-based admission is done. 

Pondicherry University has 13 schools and more than 50 departments which offer more than 150 courses in P.G., P.G. Diploma and Doctorate fields. Pondicherry University also has 21 affiliated colleges under it. Not only that, Pondicherry University also offers distance learning courses.

Pondicherry University also aims to have better and warmer connections with its alumni so it aims to create a portal to connect with them which lead to the formation of Pondicherry Alumni Association (PUAA). PUAA is a forum through which communication can be established on a regular basis for its members keeping them informed of the developments within the University and the activities of the Association.
