National Institute of Fashion Technology, also known as NIFT, is a Statutory Institute Governed by the NIFT Act 2006 and had been set up in 1986 under the supervision of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
In 2017,"CEOWORLD Magazine" ranking the best fashion schools across the globe, ranked National Institute of Fashion Technology on the 19th position, just behind Manchester School of Art.
NIFT currently has 16 campuses: its main campus is in New Delhi, and others at Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Raebareli, Shillong, and Srinagar. Ministry of Textiles has announced setting up of a new 17th NIFT Campus in Panchkula, Haryana.
The programs offered by NIFT are Four-year Undergraduate, as well as Two-year Post-graduate, programs in the areas of design, management, and technology.

NIFT has started a range of Continuing Education Programmes (CEP), which has been developed in consultation with reputed academicians and industry professionals. These programmes are made keeping in mind the growth in the professional field.

NIFT also offers Ph.D. in the areas of design, management, and technology as applied with broad reference to textiles, fashion, and lifestyle and apparel sectors of the industry. The programme is designed for carrying out research in textiles, crafts, fashion and the apparel sector to create a body of original knowledge.
The eligibility criteria for the Ph.D. programme: The Post-Graduation Degree in the relevant area of Design, Management or Technology (or) equivalent qualification from an institute/ university of national/ international repute with minimum 7 years of education after secondary (Class X) last of which was the Master’s degree.
OR
A minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a 10 point scale (5.5 for SC/ST candidates) or equivalent as determined by the institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 55% (50% for SC/ST candidates) marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) where marks are awarded in the Post-Graduation degree.
