Central Workshop

The Central Workshop of TIFR provides high-quality solutions to complex mechanical engineering problems, which may include in-house design and development. It supports researchers in fabricating and modifying experimental setups besides developing a wide range of import substitutes. The following facilities available at the Central Workshop are extensively utilized and every effort is made to improve the sophistication of our capabilities.

Besides the manufacturing of parts based on specific user requirements, the Central Workshop also manufactures high-quality flanges and fittings for use with High and Ultra High Vacuum systems, and provides these as stock items for the Central Stores.

Guest House

The TIFR Guesthouse building in the Colaba Campus is named after the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. It consists of three different categories of rooms. In addition, the facility provides fully furnished and serviced studios and two bedroom apartments on campus for the long term guests. These are offered primarily to official visitors of the Institute. Rooms can be booked online using TIFR datanet by the authorized members. For all others, booking requests should be sent to the guesthouse in-charge.

All rooms are fitted with air conditioners and provided with a refrigerator and a locker. Every room is also provided with complementary tea, coffee, milk, and sugar sachets along with an electric kettle, cups and cutlery. Dental and Shaving Kits are also provided. Guests can ask for a refill and a bottle of mineral water every day as part of the complementary services.

Canteen

TIFR is renowned for two canteens called the West and the East Canteen. The West Canteen tries to make western continental food and the east canteen prepares Indian food. Another canteen located in the housing complex - the Jagdish Canteen - is sublet to a private contractor.

Classroom

Lecture Theatre & Auditorium Facility of TIFR is responsible for providing audio-visual services for lectures and colloquia in the main lecture theatres of the institute, namely, AG 66, AG 80, AG 69 and Homi Bhabha Auditorium. The facility maintains its audio visual equipment like projectors, mike, amplifiers. LTAF also provides projection facility and Video Conferencing facility in Conference room, AG 66, AG 69, AG 80, A 414, Faculty lounge, D 405 and D 406.

Laboratory

Low Temperature Facility of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, (TIFR) Mumbai meets the requirement of two cryogenic fluids - liquid helium and liquid nitrogen along with other support services to various facilities and laboratories of the institute such as, Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science (DCMP & MS), Nuclear and Atomic Physics (DNAP), Biological Sciences (DBS), Astronomy and Astrophysics (DAA), and Chemical Sciences (DCS).

SIRC - Scientific Information Resource Center presently has a collection of more than 65,000 books mainly covering the subjects as Astronomy and Astrophysics, Chemical Physics, Theoretical Computer Science, Condensed Matter Physics, High Energy Physics, Material Science, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Nuclear and Atomic Physics and Theoretical Physics. It has received national acclaim for its quality. SIRC subscribes to around 650 foreign journals covering the above mentioned subject area
