St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai is autonomous college under the University of Mumbai. The UGC permission for Autonomous status was received in early June and the University of Mumbai subsequently notified the College as Autonomous for 5 years, beginning from the academic year 2010-11. . St. Xavier’s College was founded by German Jesuit Fathers. The college building recognized as a heritage structure is built in the Indo-Gothicstyle of architecture. Academic Autonomy places trust in the Faculty of St. Xavier’s College to take up the responsibility of designing its own courses, framing its own syllabi and conducting its own evaluation for its students. This is a system of academic freedom mandated by the UGC and implemented in other Universities of the country for about 30 years. St. Xavier’s is grateful for the opportunity of implementing Autonomy, as it will help the College to upgrade the quality of its education, in keeping with the capability of its competent and dedicated faculty and the excellent students it draws from all over the country.Β

My Experience at Xavier's Mumbai

Overall the college is a little overrated. The experience was great in my first first year in 2015. But with each year it got worse, primarily due to the new rules that kept getting more vague by the year and stricter too. Loved the friends I made there.

5 years being a proud Xavierite

This college has given me so much in my 5 years in Xavier's. Everything about this college is so good, the faculty, the atmosphere etc. My personal favourite is the gymkhana where I spend most of my break time playing carrom there. There are a number of fests, Malhar being the biggest fest of Xavier's where you get to showcase your talent and also be a part of the workforce. All these things help you learn a lot during your journey in Xavier's.
