NIFT has been granted statutory status under the act of Parliament of India in 2006, empowering the Institute to award degrees and other academic distinctions.

Placement
NIFT has a placement cell, which prepares professionals for the fashion design, technology and management. The placement cell of the college imparts placement to graduate students. NIFT invites national and international firms for the campus recruitment. The recruiting companies were from diverse segments like Designers, Manufacturer exporters, Buying Agencies, Consultants , Retailers, Fashion Brands , E-Retailer, Home Furnishings, Technology Solution Providers along with international Brands.
