To know how Nair dental is different, you need to experience it

Coming to such a reputed institute, I had heard a bit about how strict this college is and thus had fear when I was joining. Down the line I have realised that all that has been taught, expected of us, be it academics or behavior is what makes us different from others. The college has reputation for a reason, and to know why, one has to experience it. Regularity and punctuality is one thing that every student learns in 4 years. You are trained in such a way that each and every individual is high on confidence, have sound clinical experience, well trained and well behaved and can easily start a good clinical practice on their own. The way each individual is trained just makes him better as a person. The college has few shortcomings. Many facilities weren't available since college was under renovation but recently the college is equipped with nice library, advance dental chairs to work on and many more to come. Also the whole scenario is quite tough which brings it the best from all. The college is blessed with quite a number of patients and lesser number of doctors, so it's challenging to offer quality service in such scenario and that is what we are taught. Now that I have experienced all, I feel I was lucky enough to get Nair Dental.

Of Dentistry and Beyond- NHDC!

College years have been a life changing experience. Be it the joy of clinical postings, the anxiety during exams, the everyday mini challenges, the strife for perfection, the never ending deadlines or relief on having friends who waited back for help in your lab work. Each experience has helped us become better dentists and human beings. From the timid and lost first years who whined and worried, we graduated as strong, hardworking and independent individuals who are aware that there is always more to know. NHDC does not have a campus. It's a close knit community, where you end up knowing all your seniors, juniors, staff and vice versa. Four years of study followed by the most memorable of all, Internship. Internship not only allows you hone your dental skills but also let's you explore your leadership and organisation skills as you conduct various events as part of the Students' Association. When you're in college you are eager to get done but truth be told, once out you will always miss it!

Highest amount of clinical work offered

NHDC sees the maximum number of dental patients in Mumbai. You are sure to get exposure in every field of dentistry including clinical and non-clinical fields. Infrastructure is not the best, but to be fair there isn't enough physical space available. This college has quite a few quality, dedicated professors. Another plus point is the easy access to the medical college as and when required, specially during the first 3 years. Overall, this institution offers maximum work experience, which is invaluable in the dental profession.

What it means to be a 'Nair-ite'

Entering into any Medical or Health Care profession is a rat race, played only by those who want to give back their best to the society by learning from the best themselves. And thus, does Nair Hospital Dental College fall into this elite category by stint of being a government college with longstanding ideals. It’s motto as written on the emblem is Efficiency and Integrity, and these are the standards that each and every student is taught and expected to uphold. Under-graduation (B.D.S) is a 5 year course for a limited number of students, including 4 years of academics and clinics and 1 year of internship focused mainly on clinics. Teaching is based on clinical observations and mock clinical practical’s, interactive lectures, individual presentations and seminars. Dentistry is learned by hand’s-on experience, and NHDC provides an edge over most by offering Post-graduate courses in all the departments. This ensures that the teaching staff has a great level of expertise and experience, which they try to impart to the students. Additionally, students get to see and learn from a variety of cases on a daily basis, with more than 800 patients walking in every day including at least 200 new cases. Purely medical subjects are taught in the adjoining medical college. This has its own set of practical experience starting from first year with dissection, biochemistry and physiology practical’s and going on to understanding cases in the General Medicine and General Surgery hospital wards. The emphasis is on having basic medical knowledge as a foundation for dental cases, since it is inter- related. That being said, entering any medical or dental profession is not for the faint of heart. It goes hand in hand with a complete dedication to the field : there is always something new to learn, patients to care for, deadlines to meet, and extra curricular’s like cultural and sports activities. This makes it an enriching experience. What is important to remember when entering this college is – A diamond never starts out as polished and shining. It’s Time and Pressure that make that lump of coal spectacular.
