Private University Estd. 1952 NIRF #1 (Medical) 2024Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI) was incepted at the commencement of Independence in 1947 for fulfilling the need and requirement of marine engineers of the nation. In erstwhile the institute known as Directorate of Marine Engineering and they had training headquarter in Calcutta and a branch at Mumbai, under Ministry of Shipping (Government of India). Institute gets its new name Marine Engineering and Research Institute in 1994. Institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The aim of the institute is to make learner responsible in shipping technical management and provides them robust support in their research pertaining to oceans and coastal or inland waters connected to the sea.
