Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI) was incepted at the commencement of Independence in 1947 for fulfilling the need and requirement of marine engineers of the nation. In erstwhile the institute known as Directorate of Marine Engineering and they had training headquarter in Calcutta and a branch at Mumbai, under Ministry of Shipping (Government of India). Institute gets its new name Marine Engineering and Research Institute in 1994. Institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The aim of the institute is to make learner responsible in shipping technical management and provides them robust support in their research pertaining to oceans and coastal or inland waters connected to the sea.

Infrastructures

Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI) is situated at Kolkata (Calcutta), it is the oldest Marine Engineering College in India. The Institute is known for its pleasant learning atmosphere, which makes academics favourable for the learners. The campus of the institute is well designed and kit out with amenities like canteen, Hostel, bank ATM etc. The well constructed building of the IIT, Jodhpur is fully fit out with necessary amenities such trendy lecture halls, labs, library, special rooms for brainstorming session. The in-campus Medical Facility consists of a First Aid & Medical centre suitably equipped with basic Medical amenities and attended by a qualified Medical practitioner. These all facilities make learning favourable for the learners.

MERI provides air conditioned classy classrooms. All classrooms provides a special learning environment, a touch screen white board is integrated with the LCD projector and a computer.

Features and facilities

The life here is disciplined and full of opportunities. It has many hostels for boys, 1 for juniors and 5 for seniors. This is done so that there is no chance of ragging. The faculty here are mostly ex-seafarer and thus have much experience of what they teach. It has one main building and a new building which is under construction. A good experience for those people who're aspiring to become a Marine Engineer and the college provides the most to the student so they can achieve their dream.

Very bad

(COLLEGE NOT MENTIONED ON FB) The college is bad. I feel as if I shouldn't have taken admission in it. Nobody attends classes and no one does anything about it.
