The experience at IIJNM is truly one of its kind. There is an ideal atmosphere which promotes learning through constant participation at different levels and an evaluation system which demands a body of work which needs to be done throughout the year. Instead of periodic exams, the students are graded every day based on the assigned tasks. Unlike most Journalism colleges throughout the country, IIJNM educates individuals based on practical learning through field visits and beat reportage. The curriculum includes completion of a masters project in which students are sent to various taluks throughout the state to make a story based on the impending issues in that particular taluks. The faculty at IIJNM is extremely receptive towards newer thoughts or ideas and constantly provide inputs which enable young journalists to come up with ideas that provide deeper insights and are sometimes different from the mainstream media. The programme also includes a series of lectures by prominent global journalists which are usually held once a month.

Being a student from IIJNM, I feel confident because the college has evolved me into a whole new form, from the person I was to whom I am today.
