Government College of Education Chandigarh is affiliated to Punjab University, and The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited Grade ‘A’ to this College. The college offers Bachelor and Master of Education and Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy courses.

The Government Model High School and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20-D work as experimental schools for the college  Government College of Education, previously known as Government Post-Graduate Basic Training College, was founded in August 1954 under a special scheme of Government of India in the Second Five-Year Plan for establishment of training colleges for teachers at the post-graduate level.
