Faculty of Fine Arts is affiliated to Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda For the first time in independent India, a programme of study was introduced to offer UG/Diploma, PG/Post-Diploma Courses and Research facilities. Art was envisaged as an integral part of life for the new citizens. The emphasis was laid on individuality through knowledge of Indian and Western traditions.
A head foundation of teaching and research in dialects, sociologies and the humanities, the Faculty of Arts, owes its beginning to The Baroda College, built up in 1881 by H. H. Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad β III of the past Baroda State. The Faculty is purified by the name of the diviner and philosopher, Sri Aurobindo Ghosh, who had been appointed by Sir Sayajirao to show English and furthermore as the Vice-Principal of the recent Baroda College.
Establishing a Separate University for Baroda was mooted first as right on time as 1927 by Sir Sayajirao himself. It appeared on April 30, 1949, at the season of the merger of the Baroda State with the State of Bombay. Important changes were consolidated into the constitution of the Baroda College with a view to setting up independent Faculties in the University. In this way, the Baroda College, one of the most established Centers of learning in Western India, came to be known as The Faculty of Arts.
