Department of Library & Information Science is established under University of Gauhati. Libraries are the backbone of any developed society. It is said that "the nation who reads, the nation that leads". This statement is true for the development of any society. So in this regard the department tries to make the society educated formally and informally through the classroom method by training young professionals and also help in the continuing education as well as adult education programme. The main objectives of the department is to acquaint students with the principles of modern management of Library and Information centres and provide training in methods and techniques of research and their application to the problems in Library and Information Science and preparing one for further research.
