Department of Biotechnology is established under Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya is approved by UGC & NAAC. It is great pride of Department that Prof. B.N. Johri, Emeritus Scientist (CSIR) was awarded the P.C. Ray Fellowship by MPCST, for his great achievement of Scientific Research in the field of Agricultural Biotechnology and Microbial Biotechnology. Department is conducting research on various areas like Agricultural Biotechnology, Mushroom Biotechnology, Microbial Biotechnololgy, Cyanobacterial Biotechnology and Medicinal Plant Biotechnology.

Infrastructures
The department infrastructure is modern with all well equipped facilities.
Laboratory
The computer center is equipped with AST Manhattan Server, IBM RS6000 Unix Server, Motorola 68030 machines and a number of intelligent nodes under LAN environment. The center is providing facility for computation and data processing to the university and teaching departments.
Library
At present, the library contains 71259 books, 5703 thesis and 60 sanskrit MSS presented by Shri Ish Narayan Joshi.It has a collection of rare reference books on Bio-Science, Microbiology, Linguistics Sociology and Economics. Most of the reference and rare books in the Sociology section.
