Review of Asian College of Journalism (ACJ)

This is perhaps one of the few J-schools in India which provide its students with a short-term training in all the fields of media- Radio, TV, Print, and Online, irrespective of their field of specialization. Rated among the best journalism colleges in the country, ACJ has visiting faculty coming from reputed organizations like the BBC and The Hindu. Last year, the college added an 'integrated newsroom' to its campus to provide its students with the experience of working in a 24x7 multimedia newsroom. The integrated newsroom has facilities to shoot and edit videos, record podcast and to upload content online. The most challenging and probably the best part of ACJ curriculum is the 'Covering Deprivation' course which is taken by veteran journalist P Sainath. As part of this course, students are required to go on a week-long rural reporting assignment. Over the past few years, several media houses have come to ACJ during the placement session including the Times Group, CNN-IBN, The Indian Express, ESPN Cricinfo, BIG FM Radio and Reuters. But the courses here are expensive and the fees range from 3.5 to 4 lakh while the hostel fee is up to 1 lakh. However, the College offers various scholarships including merit cum means scholarship. The South Asia Foundation (SAF) scholarship is offered to students coming from the 8 SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) nations, including India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The hostel accommodation is provided on first cum first basis.
