Furious Anticipations. Sleepless Nights. Nail biting jitters. Finally, the outcome is revealed.

Board results are out, y’all!!!

Personally, my results were quite unexpected. Getting 95 in English where I forgot to attempt a question- that was a surprise. Overall, the outcome was fairly well, though I am not particularly pleased with it either.

The announcements of results have evoked various reactions. I saw a lot of people flapping their arms in rejoicement and a few dull faces as well. Some jumping with glee. Some sorely disappointed as their results weren’t up to their expectations – probably laying motionlessly on their bed, feeling too depressed to even talk to anyone. My article is exclusively dedicated to the latter. I want this post to resonate with those who think that they are left with no iota of hope; that life is full of gloom and darkness as opposed to a world full of rainbows and unicorns.

The Great Indian Admission Process wonderfully wants to turn students into mechanical cyborgs whose worth is ascertained by how high they can score via cramming or mugging, irrespective of possessing any practical knowledge.

To prove my point, and to give all those dismayed souls a little comfort, here is a list of points I want you to go through -

THESE RESULTS DON’T MAKE OR BREAK YOU:

You are who you are. Not the number of marks you scored in the final examination of high school. These percentages don’t define you. You are your own person having an awesome life. You have hobbies and your own set of likes and dislikes. Maybe, you’re a wonderful writer! Maybe you’re “the popular one” on Facebook. Maybe you’re an amazing sportsperson! Or you have a charming personality! Or you possess a great taste!

There are so many things that can define who you are and not one of them is your Board percentage. So stop trying to base your life on what you have scored - the scores that would never matter in a few years, or hell, a few months from now on!

Maybe, there is a different path in store for you. Maybe, there are lots of wonderful surprises your way! So, stop fretting over a bunch of marks.

FACT-  BOARD RESULTS ARE UNPREDICTABLE (READ: UNFAIR):

Yes, Board results are unpredictable. All you can do is keep your fingers crossed and hope your examiner’s dog is keeping good health, or the frustration will be directed towards you. Unlike school exams, where it is easier to go and fight with your teacher to increase your marks (Ma’am, iss point ka aadha number to de do!), Boards are completely anonymous. You will never get to know which despicable sadist examined your papers.
Yes, people are vile. There’s nothing much that you can really do!

Even if you burned the midnight oil, flipped through the textbook pages back and forth and compromised on your sleep, the kid who “never even opened their book the night before the exam” managed to score a whopping 90-something percentage. Life is unfair and so is the Board exam.

YOU HAVE NOT LET YOUR (INSERT: PARENTS, FAMILY OR FRIENDS) DOWN:

Remember when I talked about you being YOUR own person? Carrying a baggage around is futile. Yes, maybe your dad cracked the IIT-JEE or maybe your mom got into SRCC. That doesn’t necessarily imply that you have to follow their footsteps! You will carve your own destiny, and do far greater things in life. Things that matter to you and things that you know are important. Those things might not necessarily relate to academics. So you are not a nerd! There is nothing wrong with that. Go against the convention and take the road not taken. And as cheesy as it sounds, going against the flow is what sets people apart.

Maybe a disappointing Board result might just help you find your true calling! It could be painting, poetry, acting or even photography. Go for it!
Remember. People love you. Your family and friends love you and they are proud of you. But most importantly, you have to love yourself!

THERE ARE FAR MORE GREAT THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TOO:

Remember those anxious nights when you inched closer to the day of declaration of results each minute? Well, it’s finally over. Good news, you can sleep in peace! Board results are a thing of past now! At the end of the day, what matters is what you make of yourself in life. And no, Board results are not the only facilitators to guide you towards a bright future.

Think of it, life has plenty to offer. There are better to things to look forward to. Don’t end up shunning all the awesome stuff in your life because of a reason as inane as this. There are so many cool things to look forward to: like the chance of meeting your celebrity crush someday! Or watching Hangover 3! Or getting 200+ likes on your Facebook profile picture!

You can’t just throw it all away because of some exams. NO. Life is much bigger than you can imagine!

Well, I hope I gave all those people in despair some hope, something to cling on to. So, stop wallowing. Yes, maybe you didn’t quite “succeed” this time. But next time, you will shine!
