In one of my previous blogs, I’d written about the new catchphrase called YOLO- You Only Live Once. As I had mentioned, the concept of YOLO isn’t to smoke and drink. It is to go out and do something with your life.
Now that school is over, we are all coming to terms with our new found freedom. Even with all the liberties that have been bestowed on us, it is best to take a slow ride on this road. This is the time when the ‘I-don’t-care’ and ‘whatever’ attitude sets in. It may sound preachy, but the harsh truth is, we aren’t always in the best position to make our calls. Sure, you are 18 and free, but a little caution won’t hurt.
Here is a list of not-so-YOLO things:
1. Drinking and driving: Heard that tons of times, made posters about it, were a part of the school campaign against it… but when the time comes to act on it, all pledges go down the drain. I am pretty sure you don’t want to spend the most indispensable years of your life stuck on a bed. So, do yourself a favour and call the cab the next time you are drunk.
2. Drugs: No arguing there. It is pretty easy to give in to temptation at this age. No matter how great the pressure is, always keep your guard up. A simple and assertive ‘NO’ can spare you a lifetime of misery and regrets.
3. Squandering on Facebook profile pictures: Yeah, you read that right. They say, ‘Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.’ Well, not anymore. The new definition of beauty is the number of likes on your profile picture. But that doesn’t mean you go to the extent of paying thousands of bucks to get that one perfect click.
4. Irrelevant tattoos: Getting inked in Chinese characters even though you don’t have the slightest idea about their meaning is NOT cool. So, instead of having your body parts shouting cryptic messages, why don’t you just believe in those great quotes and act like you do.
In the end, it all narrows down to what choices you make. You could either be kinking glasses and changing Whatsapp statuses, or changing lives.
