Subjugated by two threatening hazards, serious energy shortage and accelerating climate change, it is about time that we look at newer technologies that will help us curb these potential threats. Silicon solar is a well established technology that may address this problem but is impeded by its cost problem. An alternative low cost solution is the call of the hour. To identify this issue, the School of Electronics Engineering, KIIT University in Odisha had organised a one-day workshop to try to focus on the various aspects of the solar cells like Silicon solar cells, GaAs solar cells, Thin Film solar cells (CdTe, CIGS, a:Ci), Dye sensitized solar cells etc.
The participants of the Solar Energy Workshop gained exposure to different types of solar cells, along with industry specific perspective of emerging new technologies in solar cells. The event was marked with the presence of eminent dignitaries like Padamshree A.K Barua, BESU, Kolkata; Dr. R. Bhattacharya, NPL, India; Prof. Viresh Dutta, IIT Delhi; Dr. V.K Kaul, GM, Cel, Shahibabad; Dr. Rajiv Jindal, Moserbaer, Noida; Prof. P. C Srivastava , BHU; Dr. Pallav Banerjee, IIT Kharagpur.
