Jaypee University of Science and Technology (JUIT) is organising a Workshop on Critical State Soil Mechanics (CSSM-2012) on 30-31, 2012. Critical state soil mechanics provides a rational framework for the interpretation of both laboratory and field tests of soil samples and emphasizes the interrelationship between the shear and consolidation behavior of soils.

Purpose:

The purpose of the workshop is to introduce the concepts and some applications of critical state soil mechanics to practicing engineers, research workers and university teachers. The content will include introductory concepts, evaluation of critical state parameters and relation to conventional index and engineering properties.

Format:

The program will include two problem sessions during which the participants will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with simple computations. Participants are strongly urged to bring their own experimental data for processing and evaluation by critical state concepts. These data should be good quality laboratory or field data that adequately define the volume change characteristics and the shear strength in terms of effective stress. Additional information regarding data requirements will be sent to pre-registrants. Illustrative data will be available for participants who are not able to bring their own data. Results of the problem sessions will be discussed and evaluated on the final day of the programme.
