Students aspiring for seats in Bachelor with honours in Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC) at Indraprastha College for Women have a good chance of making it if they have some prior experience of working in the media.
The college has announced a 2% advantage for all applicants who have some experience in working in media of various kinds. All students who produce satisfactory documents (certificates, publications, videos or radio recordings) to support their work in writing articles for magazine or newspaper, computer graphics, filmmaking, radio, TV, freelancing and creative writing will get a relaxation of 2%.
Till last year, the college was the only one to have a course in mass communication. All the remaining colleges would teach journalism, with less focus on technology. This year onwards, the two courses have been combined to form the Bachelor with honours in Journalism and Mass Communication course. It will be offered in six colleges but only IP College has decided to give preference to those with experience.
“If any applicant has skills and previous experience in mass media, she should get some advantage” said MM Yogi, co-ordinator of the journalism and mass communication department, IP College.
The college is also in the process of finalising a proposal to introduce a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication in the near future. “We have proposed this to the varsity authorities. The project is in the pipeline and we are working on it” added Babli Moitra Saraf, principal, IP College.
