Delhi University students inquire vehemently, as their holidays get replaced with field work starting this year midst all the heated discussion about the four-year course, comes another news for Delhi University students — no mid-summer breaks! The university reportedly plans to replace the breaks, that happen twice a year, with field work, excursion, co-curricular activities, project work or extra classes.

Till a few years ago, DU was known to give a relaxed academic environment to students, giving way to the exam stress only once a year. But, students feel that these new rules plan on sucking out all the free time that students enjoy.

The week-long period of relaxation will be replaced with practical work now. Most students say that the break was a refreshing change from the monotonous routine of lectures and meeting assignment deadlines, and it was a period for students to catch up with their syllabus and prepare for the mid-semester exams.

Many students feel that the existing semester system and the new Four Year Undergraduate Programme are already time consuming, and with the cancellation of mid-sem breaks, life will become even more hectic. Though the vice-chancellor was not available for comments on the matter, we spoke to some students about the issue and have listed their take on the matter.
