At the end of a two-week recruitment drive a record 7,947 at Vellore Institute of Technology Vellore, the VIT graduates were offered jobs by five IT companies. Chancellor of VIT, G Viswanathan, who announced the results said this is the fourth consecutive year VIT has created a record in the number of students placed in IT services companies that include Accenture, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS and Wipro.

Cognizant recruited the highest number of students (1,914), closely followed by TCS (1,864), Accenture (1,472), Infosys (1,456) and Wipro (1,241) from the Vellore and Chennai campuses. This is the first time these five companies are hiring more than 1,000 students each from a single institution. This is also the highest number of recruitments done by individual companies surpassing their own records set last year. The recruitment process took place this month. Cognizant hiring 1,914 graduates is a national record in slot 1 placements. 

VIT has entered the Limca Book of Records for the highest number of placements four times so far.

The placement season for the current year (2015-16) started in May, 2015 with M Tech internship placements. More than 30 companies recruited 302 M Tech students as interns with a stipend ranging from '10,000 to '35,000 per month. Some of the prominent recruiters included Intel, VmWare, Netapp, Continental Automotive, IFB, Cadence, Cummins, S T Microelectronics, Renault-Nissan, Honeywell, NXP semiconductors etc.

Core engineering companies like L&T constructions, Godrej properties, Johnson Controls, Sundaram Clayton, Whirlpool, SKF have already visited VIT for placements. Automotive companies like Maruti, Ford, Hyundai, Caterpillar, General Motors will be visiting VIT this month.
