About the vacancy announced by UPSC for Geologists:
UPSC will be conducting a common examination for various posts in Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines (category I) and Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources (category II). A candidate can apply for following posts:

- 17 vacancies of geologists and 3 vacancies of assistant geologists are reserved for physically challenged candidates belonging to the hearing impairment category.
- One vacancy of junior hydrogeologist is reserved for physically challenged with hearing impairment (partially).
- Reservation for SC/ST candidates, other backward classes and physically disabled will be subjected to Government policies.
Eligibility criteria for UPSC Geologists’ Examination 2012:
- A candidate must be either (a) an Indian national, (b) a subject of Nepal, (c) a Subject of Bhutan (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, (e) a person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the Republican of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
- For the above (b), (c), (d) and (e) category an eligibility certificate has to be issued by the Government of India is required.
