It is hailed as a one of the flagships of unique BITS experience, aimed at providing industry exposure at the early stages of graduation. Touted as one of the many reasons, why BITS is "special", the scheme of Practice School is meant to streamline a student's thoughts, making him better prepared to face the industry when the time comes. Ideally, the BITSian will be better equipped to cope with corporate world as compared to his peers from other colleges. These are the broad objectives of the PS program and that is why the Practise School program has not one two PS's- PS 1 that is scheduled in the summer months of June and July for students who have just completed their second year of graduation and PS 2 in the first or second semester for students in their fourth year. For students who are pursuing an engineering degree in addition to their Msc degree, PS-2 is held in the second semester of the 5th year.
Now, irrespective of all the good and noble intentions with which the BITS administration had introduced PS-1, students categorically agree that PS-1 is quite a dud. Let us start with the selection of companies. For an institute of BITS's repute, the companies (PS stations) come out as a big disappointment. This year for the 2011 batch, the list had many companies, hitherto unheard of by most students. There were no major MNCs and most companies were small units with minuscule turnovers, owned by private conglomerates. With PS-1 now in progress, it is evident that PS stations had been chosen without a prior visit to these companies by a BITS representative.
