Students Queue for ECA and Sports Quota Forms

The sale and submission of forms rolled into its second week here with a number of aspirants starting to make a beeline for sports and ECA quota applications. Colleges offering admission through these categories have begun distribution of forms. However, unlike the common admission forms, ECA and sports quota applications are decentralized.

 

DU reserves a five per cent of its seats for the sports and ECA (subject wise) categories. For many students, whose marks are not as towering as the cut-offs, these quotas serve as another gateway to DU. “The cut-offs went as high as 99% last year and since I’ve scored 85%, this is my only shot” said Deepika Mathur, who applied through sports quota to Gargi College.

 

Admission in this category, however, is not easy. The competition is tough with even high scoring students applying through ECA and sports quota. These quotas serve as a reliable backup plan for talented students who are not able to match the ever soaring cut-offs.

 

While the popularity and necessity of sports and ECA quota cannot be denied, decentralised forms are turning out to be a pain for students with the blazing heat adding to their woes. “I have covered most of the North Campus colleges today, now it will take me another day or two to get forms from the remaining colleges” said a tired and annoyed Sagar Joshi, an applicant of ECA in the debating category.

 

Students applying through these categories are selected on the basis of trials conducted by respective colleges. While sports quota aspirants need to give their trials once, students applying through ECA do not enjoy the same privilege. “Getting to every trial is quite hectic. Last year, some students had to give two trials in a single day,” said Piyush Pant, who applied through ECA (instrumental music) to Hindu, Ramjas, Kirori Mal and Venkateswara College.
