Students, who had applied under the first cut-off list, claimed they were denied admission due to a delay by the college in verifying the admission forms.
They also alleged the college authorities, who had been monitoring the admission process, had assured the students they would be admitted to the college despite a delay in the verification process.
“On the first day of cut-offs we were told that we would get the forms on Saturday. On Saturday, we waited for the verification of our forms since morning. By 3pm, the staff had left and our forms had still not been verified. So the principal along with the HoD of the mathematics department assured us that each of us would be admitted into the college. They also gave us an assurance in writing that our admissions would be considered on Monday. But on Monday, the principal and the HOD both denied us admissions,” said an aspirant.
However, the college principal denied the claims, stating that no such promise had been made by the college administration.
“We have followed the rules and regulations of the university. The admission forms were accepted till 5pm. On Saturday, the fees for the course were collected till 7pm and nobody from my staff had been given any orders to assure the students that they would get admission,” said Inderjeet Dagar, principal.
When the students approached the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) office, hopes of salvaging the situation appeared slim.
