Student Registration and Evaluation Division at Indira Gandhi Open University has been bifurcated into two Divisions in September 2008, i.e. Student Registration Division and Student Evaluation Division.

The Student Registration Division, one of the operational Divisions of the University, is responsible for monitoring of registration of students for different programmes offered by the University, ‘Walk-in Admission’, ‘On-line admission’ and assessing equivalence of degrees. The Division has been successfully and effectively maintaining the database of over 2 million active students on roll of the University.

The preparations for admission of students to various programmes of the University start much before the commencement of the session that is, with the finalisation of Prospectus and release of admission notification in the leading newspapers throughout the country during the months of April and May, followed by a repeat in August and September each year. The admissions are made in majority of programmes of the University subject to fulfilment of minimum eligibility. However, eligibility is decided through Entrance Tests for admission to certain programmes, viz. Management Programmes, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), B. Sc (Nautical Science), Diploma in Civil and Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering for Army Personnel, Post-Graduate Certificate in Oral Implantology and Post-Graduate Certificate in Endodontic.

 Walk In Admission

The University has introduced ‘Walk-in-Admission’ in all the Academic Programmes. Under this scheme, the Student Handbook and Prospectus would be on sale round the year and a prospective student can walk-in at any point of time at the respective Regional Centres along with credentials and requisite programme fee and submit his/her admission form. The application form will be scrutinised and admission confirmed by the Regional Directors, if it is found in order. Self-instructional material is also provided to the students by the Regional Directors.

Admission Forms received up to May 31 are accounted for July cycle of admission and the Forms received thereafter and up to November 30 are accounted for January cycle of admission.
