Strikes and ‘Bandhs’ – Useful or a Menace?

Following a bandh called by All Capital Complex Youth Welfare Association (ACCYWA) in Arunachal Pradesh, the All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) said that it vehemently opposed the 12-hour capital bandh call given by All Capital Complex Youth Welfare Association (ACCYWA) on October 10, 2011. The Union said the issues raised by numerous organizations of the state are related to overall cause of the state; so such bandh calls only in the capital region are not justified. It however said the demand of ACCWYA can’t be neglected.

The bandh culture has become a fashion for every organization/ body (student or political) which has taken various destructive forms. If the issues raised are for the cause of people of the state then public participation and their approval should be sought first by gathering public opinion, observed APPDSU adding that bandh calls are not the only remedy to seek justice.

Being the apex students’ union of the district, APPDSU appealed to all the organizations to refrain from declaring ‘bandh’ calls in the capital complex for the greater benefit of the common masses as well as the students who are the worst sufferers of frequent ‘bandh’ calls.

They asserted that there are other forms of democratic movements to seek justice. Leaders of such organizations should opt for legal steps against the concerned department or ministers responsible for the ‘poor’ state-of-affairs of the State.

The central executive members of APPDSU have decided to take measures to stop frequent ‘bandh’ calls in the capital complex if the situation so demands in the future. They added that the authority concerned should take all necessary action and all the business community, public and others should cooperate with the authority for an alternate solution.
