The process of filing up of forms has begun! If you’ve not already noticed, the form for St. Stephens required us to fill in a “Statement of Purpose”. It did tell us what to write, and yet, I couldn’t help but feel a little irresolute. So I Googled it up and here’s what I found.
Basically, every university has its own idea of what an SOP is. And going by the examples given on their websites isn’t really an option, because our form asks us to stay within a 200 word limit. So what exactly do you write? After a decent introductory line, focus on the values you hold and how they get reflected in your experiences and achievements. Of course, also keep in mind the points that they’ve asked you for, then build around them. Be yourself. (Well, a bit polished version of yourself!) After all, it’s a statement that reflects you and your vision. Just remember, especially if you’re a writer like me, to be succinct. I have a habit of exceeding word limits – and that can be a disadvantage many-a-times.
If you’re wondering, this is what a 200 word write up looks like. Now, go and get that form filled! I hope you get the college of your dreams!
