Start-Ups fall at IIT Placements

The placement drives at IITs will be in full swing starting this December, and even though the season has already begun, the scenario is slightly different as compared to last year.

As per reports, start-ups have failed to make an impression during the placement season this time. There has been a 50% fall in the number of start-ups that were a part of the placement drive in the IITs. Companies like Flipkart, Snapchat and Paytm have not registered for the recruitment drive this year.

Last year, around six major start-up companies, were blacklisted from the IIT placement drive. As per the All IIT Placement Committee, close to 135 students from different IITs were affected by the actions of these companies. The names of these companies remain confidential, though.

A placement team member from IIT Kanpur mentioned that the Placement cell is screening and short-listing the companies that have registered for the placements in IIT campuses. He said this is being done essentially to check the stability of these companies.

Overall, the placement season is good with the PPOs (Pre-Placement Offers) going up a notch by 25-30% as compared to 2015.
