In a meeting called by Reverend Dr. Valson Thampu - Principal of St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi have concluded with the decision to conduct a written test, along with the personal interview for admission to all its courses from the academic session of 2015 onwards. It will be a half-hour long test and will be allotted a certain portion of the 15 marks that is kept aside for the personal interview. The remaining 85 marks will remain allotted to the best of four percentage secured by students in their Class 12 Board Examinations.

St. Stephen’s College offers degree courses on Economics, English, History, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics along with the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Pass Course and Bachelor of Science (B. Sc) Pass Course. Each of these departments will conduct their own test.

Guidelines of entrance test in St. Stephen’s college for admission in 2015:

  • Question papers of morning & afternoon session will be different; the format & questions to be provided by the respective departments
  • Separate faculties will evaluate the test and take interviews; answer papers of the entrance test will be evaluated by a separate faculty, and they will not be allowed to see/ check/ grade the answer sheets

While some teachers are in favour of this latest introduction in admission format, some teachers are skeptical. Those in favour maintain that the selection process (for the right candidate) will be objective and decisions will not be taken on an arbitrary basis. Those in doubt of the new format are unsure how students in History and English will be adjudged.

Being a minority college, St. Stephen’s College can set its own guidelines for admission. In fact, St. Stephen’s does not even accept the common admission form process that is issued by Delhi University for admission to all colleges under its purview.
