South Asian History Conference scheduled for 16th-18th October at Punjabi University, Patiala

The three-day conference (16th to 18th Oct 2015) at the Punjabi University in Patiala organized by its Department of History aims to bring together research scholars, historians, academicians etc working in South Asian countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Myanmar to come and participate and contribute towards covering the gap that exists in South Asian historical studies.

The main objective of the conference is to focus and comprehend in detail the patterns that exist between religion and polity and its social consequences during the different phases of history. It also aims highlighting the implications of such a pattern for contemporary South Asia.

The suggested themes for the conference include:

• Religion and Political legitimacy
• Religion and Society
• Socio Religious Reform Movements
• Religion and Colonialism
• Religion and Law
• Women, Gender and Religion

Participants can work on other themes as well and not limit themselves to the stated options.

A soft copy of the document needs to be submitted on or before 31st August 2015 following which the papers will be scrutinized and the participants will be informed about its acceptance.

The scholars will be required to register before or on 8th October 2015. The registration fees will include accommodation and food for three days.

The proceedings of the conference will be duly published by the Publication Bureau of the Punjabi University in Patiala.
