Banking, as a career option, has become more popular today as banks have diversified their activities and are getting into new products and services that include consumer finance, wealth management, life and general insurance, investment banking, mutual funds, pension fund regulation, stock broking services, private equity, etc. In the near future, banking sector is going to be the largest job providers in the country with over 50,000 vacancies being their in the public sector banks alone. Today financial services and banking opportunities have become highly diversified and specialised. There are several niche areas which are now becoming popular avenues for employment opportunities. Education and Key Skills required

One can take courses in commerce, finance, accounting, auditing and taxation. Aspirants can do specialised courses in chartered accountancy and financial analysis as well. Minimum qualification required is to be at least 10+2 to enrol in a relevant programme. To be successful in this field, the main requirement is to be a people’s person. Being a service industry, the core areas here remain knowing the client’s needs and servicing him according to his needs. Also having a keen sense of the dynamically changing market is essential. Along with all the qualifications, constant upgradation of knowledge is also a must.
