Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi has launched its film club to promote the study of cinema as an art form. The legendary film actress, Sharmila Tagore inaugurated the event on Tuesday. Tagore has remained the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification from 2006-2011 and has also been a member of many reputed film festival juries including the Cannes Film Festival.
Former president of NASSCOM, Kiran Karnik was the chief guest at the inauguration, along with the keynote speaker, Amit Khanna (film and television producer- director), and Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice chancellor, JMI.
A senior official of the university said that the main aim of this initiative is to encourage students to pursue cinema studies, along with a critical study of cinema and its audiences.
The club will have regular film screenings along with interactions and discussions with film makers and experts from the industry on aspects relating to the production of a film. Students will also be explained and exposed to the several genres of filmmaking.
