University School of Law and Legal Studies (USLLS), one of the constituent school of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), is holding one day seminar for the students on the topic “Tribal Issues and Laws: Contemporary Scenario”.
Objective
The seminar has been organized for students of USLLS and it aims to hone the research and writing skills of the students. In addition to this, the purpose of the seminar is to make law students aware about the tribal population, their identity issues and other problems they face in the current Indian context.
Broad themes for the seminar are as follows:
- Indigenous/customary rights
- IPR and patent issues; International conventions (Convention on Biodiversity, Declaration on the rights of indigenous people) and their impact on tribal people
- Customary laws of tribals in India
- Impact of Government policies/laws, Development endeavours of private parties and govt. and commercialization in tribal areas
- Issues of displacement and resultant discontent among the tribals; role of various NGOs in this regard
- Tribal/Indigenous uprisings since the colonial period and context of naxalism in contemporary India; reasons and tentative solutions
Guidelines for the Seminar Presentation by the Students Abstract:
- Abstract should be of 300 words. It should include the following points
- Motivations/problem
- Approach/method used
- 5 keywords
