The School of Business, Public Policy and Social Entrepreneurship (SBPPSE), established in 2011 as part of Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) attempts to engage students in active learning by employing different pedagogies, such as case studies, role plays, simulations and experiential learning. In 2014, the students of all programmes of SBPPSE along with the faculty and office staff undertook a two day field trip to Camp Wild, located in the Aravali Valley, Dhauj. Several activities were carried out during the trip to enhance interpersonal skills, group dynamics, decision making, team building, and leadership skills through experiential learning.
The camp was scenically stunning, surrounded by hills on one side and greenery on the other. There were a variety of activities set up for the students, including Rock Climbing and Obstacle Courses. Being in a place which is close to nature, with just a select bunch of people, evoked a deeper feeling of group dynamics and sense of belongingness. The essence of the field trip was that it was part of the "Learning Enhancement Activity" primarily intended to be a 'Team Building Exercise".
Overall, the trip succeeded in its purpose of having students learn from experience, and initiating meaningful interactions between students among themselves and the faculty. Learning to accept and work in new groups, being there for moral support to fellow members, and adhering to the rules of the activities was something that everyone has taken away from the trip. In the end everyone was left wishing the excursion didn’t end, and with memories they would cherish for a long time to come.
