To facilitate the students Karunya University conducted aunique short term course on September 1-14, 2014.
The course was conducted on evolving topic “Recent Techniques in Cell Culture and Cytotoxicity Assay” on September 1-14, 2014.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr.J.Jannet Venilla, Director and Head of Department of Biotechnology and delivered her welcome speech.
Focus of the course:
The short term course aims at
- To impart knowledge in cell culture techniques
- Nationwide participations from Assistant Professors and research scholars (22)
- Hands on training in the establishment of cell culture, preservation an
- d maintenance of cells, production of monoclonal antibodies, western blotting, scaffold preparation for tissue engineering and cytotoxicity assay

- Dr. J. Jerald Mahesh Kumar and Dr. S. Thanumalayan from Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad discussed about monoclonal antibody production and evaluation with hands on training was performed
- Dr. M. Ramesh from Bharatiar University spoke on the importance of toxicology
- Dr. M.A.Akbarsha emphasized about the alternatives to animal model by using 3D culture techniques
- Dr. A Thangavelu from Madras Veterinary College gave an elaborate lecture about vaccine production using cell culture
The Course Director Dr. C. Vani, Karunya University reported that the participants were exposed to cutting techniques in animal cell culture and gained more knowledge for their future research.
