Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) placements have crossed all barriers. With top-notch companies visiting the campus for recruitment 100 final year students have bagged jobs at top class companies which ar par excellence. This year SRCC began with placements in August itself and the average salary with the highest annual package is at Rs 10 lakh.
Aditya Narain, coordinator, SRCC's placement cell said that just three months into the current academic year and 16.5 % of their students that is 102 have already been placed. Only 50 students had been placed by this time in November last year. And it was quite a favourable start with a 100% increase, he said.
Mr Narain further added that the placement drive usually starts in October but it was advanced this time to fit into the semester schedule as well as to accommodate all the companies willing to recruit in a more organized way.
At least 20 companies have already visited the campus and that they are in talks with many more. All big firms have already recruited students at an average annual salary of Rs 6.5 lakh. The figure is set to go up as the drive is likely to continue till March. The average package offered last year was Rs 6.3 lakh, Narain said.
The highest package of Rs 10 lakh have been bagged by two students pursuing BCom (honours). Deutche Bank, that offered a package of Rs 32 lakh last year, has not visited the campus yet. Forty-two companies were a part of the process last year.
Principal P C Jain said that the companies are eager to hire candidates as they want to block the best of the lot. They usually lose out on them if they defer their visits to November or December. Also, these firms will have more time till May 2012 to groom the recruited students for the profiles offered to them, he added. The recruits have also been allotted mentors who would train them during holidays. Narain added that a BCom (honours) student is almost as good as a post-graduate in a similar discipline. So it's beneficial for companies to recruit them as they command lesser salaries. The profiles offered include business analyst, commodities trading, marketing and internal audit.
College authorities forwarded their view by saying that there has been a significant improvement in the response of companies. The result - more students have registered for placements. All 615 BCom (honours) and BA (honours) economics students will be appearing for placements this year.
