Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of REVA Institute of Technology and Management organized a nationwide workshop between May 9 - 11, 2013
Latex is a free, open - source typesetting tool used by the scientists and engineers all over the world. The logical structure of Latex enables an author to focus on the content of the document and frees him/her from concern about formatting details. Thus, Latex helps in improving Researchers’ productivity while authoring documents.
This skill enhancement workshop aimed at imparting through hands-on training in Latex. The workshop included ample practice sessions and self-test assignments and participants were provided with DVDs containing all package used in the workshop and literature on various aspects of Latex. Participants were expected to author his/her technical documents using Latex independently at the completion of the workshop.
Main Objectives of this works shop were:
• Acquiring and installing Latex and its subsidiary tools as Jabref, Latable and Texaide on a windows-based personal computer.
• Logical typesetting using article templates provided by conference organizers, technical journals, universities and publishers.
• Inserting mathematical symbols, formulas, figures, tables, algorithms and other non-text items in technical documents.
• Creating databases of bibliographical references and citing the references and
• Creating lecture slides using Latex and subsidiary tools.
Management also allotted accommodation to the participants in Institutes’ hostel. They were provided with lunch and dinner and were also facilitated with shuttle to the venue from the hostel. This workshop was open to faculty of academic institutes and research scholars in all branches of engineering and science.
Participants needed to register themselves with Rs. 500 in form of DD in favour of ‘the Principal, Reva ITM’ payable at Bangalore, which was non- refundable.
Convener Committee was headed by Dr. Sunil Kumar S Manvl, Dean R&D, Professor & Head Department of ECE, REVA ITM, Bangalore while Chief Patron was Sri P. Shyama Raju, Chairman, REVA Group of Institutes.
Workshop was ended with a great success in introduced Latex tool to the participants.
