QS World University Rankings for the year 2022 has been released for the BRICS nations (Brazil, China, India, Russia and South Africa). There is good news for India; Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc Bangalore) is placed sixth in the list. This year, India expanded its base in the rankings with 17.6 percent of the total 250 universities. However, IISc fell one place from its rank in 2015 list.  

Before we move ahead and let the users know about the rankings of Indian institutes, it’s important to put some light on QS World University Rankings. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is a higher education analyst with the global repute and compiles the world university rankings. Every Year, it releases the list of top rankings institutes and universities from all over the world aside from top universities in the BRICS nations.

Like every year, the list of top institutes in BRICS nations is based on the good academics and overall performances in research, development and other areas. In the QS World University Rankings for BRICS nations in 2022, Indian universities have made their presence and mark with the 44 reputed universities in the list. Even when India expanded its base from the 15 percent last year to 17.5 in 2022, IISs Bangalore fell place along with six of the top 10 Indian universities also witnessed fall in rankings from 2015.

This year, QS World University Ranking list included 250 entries as compared to 200 for 2015. Last year, 31 Indian universities found the place in the list which counted for 15.5 percent out of the total 200 rankings, whereas the number increases to 44 this year which counted for 17.5 percent of the total 250 entries in the list.  

India has eight universities in the top 50 which matches the Russian numbers and is one more than Brazil. However, Indian representation is far lower to that of China having 86 universities in the list, Russia claiming 55 positions and Brazil bagging 54 positions in the list of university rankings for BRICS nations in 2022.
