Ph.D. Programme in Science in National Institute of Science Education and Research: Admission Notification

National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) at Bhubaneswar operates under the Department of Atomic Energy. It aims at nurturing world class scientists for the country who will take up challenging research and teaching assignments in universities, research and development laboratories and various industries.

NISER invites applications for admission to its Ph.D. programme which is scheduled to commence from December, 2011 in following schools of basic sciences:

• School of Biological Sciences
• School of  Chemical Sciences
• School of Physical Sciences

Eligibility

There is a different eligibility criterion for all three schools:

• Biological Sciences

You should have 60% marks in Masters in any branches of Biology, life sciences and bioinformatics or masters in any branches of natural or computer sciences with interest in pursuing career in biology.

The research areas for this school are:

1. Bioinformatics Cancer Biology
2. Cell Biology
3. Plant biology
4. Molecular & Developmental Genetics
5. Molecular Microbiology
6. Neurogenetics

• Physical Sciences

You should have 60% marks in M. Sc or 60% marks in equivalent degree in Engineering
 

• Chemical Sciences

You should have 60% marks in M. Sc. or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Physics, Applied Chemistry, Biochemistry, Material Science, any one of the subject.

The research areas for this School are:

1. Organic Chemistry
2. Inorganic Chemistry
3. Physical Chemistry

• You should not be more than 28 years of age on 1st December, 2011 (Born on or after 1st December, 1983).
• You should have qualified the CSIR-NET/ GATE/ JEST/ NBHM/ INSPIRE or equivalent examination valid for the current year in the relevant area of research.

UGC-CSIR or any other JRF qualified candidates have to avail the fellowship directly from UGC or CSIR or any other whereas, students selected for Ph.D. program based on GATE/ GPAT/ JEST or any other scores, are eligible for financial aid (Assistantship / Scholarship) from NISER, Bhubaneswar.

Application Procedure

• You can obtain application form by post or in person from the Academic Section, NISER Bhubaneswar.
• If you are requesting application form by post, please enclose a self-addressed envelope (A4 size, 21 cm X 30 cm) affixed with postage stamps of Rs. 25/-.
• You should send only attested copies (By Gazette Officer) of all supporting documents (mark sheets, certificates, age proof, caste certificate, etc.).
• You should enclose two letters of reference.

Candidates intending to apply for more than one program should use separate application form for each program with appropriate enclosures. NISER does not demand any entrance fee from the candidates who apply for Ph.D program.
