A pioneer in the education industry over the last 20 years, Pearl Academy has campuses in New Delhi, Noida and Jaipur and is opening a brand new centre in Mumbai in 2014. In these years, Pearl has evolved into a globally renowned institute of higher education catering to the Design, Fashion, Business and Retail industries across India.
For over a decade now, the Department of Communication Design has been nurturing successful graduates who forge their careers as designers in the Entertainment and Media industry. Including such dynamic areas as Films, Internet, Television, Print and Advertising, this sector has seen immense growth in the past few years, and it shows no signs of slowing down: PwC projects that it will grow by 17% per year until 2022, at which point it will be worth 1,764 billion Rupees. In Communication Design, students’ exposure to this broad and exciting industry is second to none throughout their studies.
An exciting development for 2014 is a new Postgraduate Diploma in Motion Graphics Design. Motion Graphics are familiar to us all, whether in the opening titles of a movie, in an animated “ident” for a TV station, or in web advertising. Running exclusively at Pearl Academy’s Noida campus, close to industry partners in the famous Noida Film City, this specialised 2-year course focusing on the TV and digital media sectors is delivered in association with the renowned Domus Academy in Italy, and students have the option to study a module in Milan gaining overseas experience.
At the undergraduate level, the 4-year BA (Hons.) Communication Design course is validated by Nottingham Trent University in the UK. To help them to decide on their direction, all the UG students follow the same programme of study for the first two years, building their knowledge and skills in areas such as graphic design, typography, photography, film making, branding and marketing. They then choose one of four pathways to follow in depth, as they specialise for the final two years: Graphic Design & Advertising, Experience Design, Film & Animation, or Interactive Media Design.
For students in this course completing an industrial internship is mandatory, but many actually choose to do two or even three internships before graduation. Since they also undertake live briefs from real clients during the course, and many opt to study abroad for a semester, feedback from employers is that this exposure means Pearl Academy’s Communication Design graduates are 100% ready to hit the ground running as design professionals when they start their first job. And, because Communication Design covers a very broad spectrum of creative activity, graduates have an unrivalled choice of destinations when it comes to their careers.
