In an effort to stop misuse and malpractices carried out by some MBA institutes, the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has decided that new part-time MBA courses and admissions to existing ones will not be approved by the council from the next academic session. B-schools in India are required to apply to the AICTE for renewing their part-time courses.

This came as a response to the fact that several B-schools are using this facility provided by the AICTE to run other programmes on the pretext of part-time MBA programmes, which clearly is against the framework provided by the Council.

This ruling is said to affect around 400 colleges and 20, 000 students. Presently about 2,500 management schools in India enjoy this privilege of offering part time MBA courses. The B-schools affected by this decision maintains that by issuing such a ruling, AICTE will make higher education unaffordable and prevent the growth and development of working professionals.
