Students with disabilities may not have to study the foundation courses in Mathematics and Science, if recommendations by a Delhi University panel are implemented.
The committee, which had assessed impact of the implementation of the four-year undergraduate programme, sent its recommendations to the university administration.
The panel has asked the academic departments to provide the Equal Opportunity Cell with the relevant syllabi and visual tools to be used to teach the course so that the cell can convert them into disabled-friendly documents. If some students still have trouble dealing with the subject, they can be allowed to study courses in History of Science and Communication and Personality Development.
Meanwhile, the university released admission guidelines for persons with disabilities category on Tuesday. The admission procedure for the category has been decentralised. A total of 3% of seats in all undergraduate courses are reserved for the category. Under this, 1% will be allocated to students with low vision or blindness, the hearing-impaired and students with locomotor disabilities and cerebral palsy, respectively.
Colleges will prepare separate cut-off list for each disability category, create separate helpdesks, provide wheel chairs and hold admission procedure on the ground floor of the colleges. The college website will also have a separate accessible link for such students.
