Odisha state government has decided to accept the merit list of All India Pre-Medical Entrance Test (AIPMT) 2014 conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in the state.
This means Odisha will not conduct the state-level entrance test for MBBS and BDS admissions from this year, reported a leading daily.
Last year, Odisha used the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) merit list for undergraduate (UG) medical and dental admission.
On July 18, 2013, the Supreme Court struck down NEET as illegal. After the verdict, the CBSE decided to conduct AIPMT, the pre-2013 admission system for 15% seats of state medical colleges and all seats of central government-run medical institutions.
Thereafter, Odisha government expressed its willingness to be a part of AIPMT.
"For the 85% seats under the state quota, admissions would be through state merit list of AIPMT by following the state reservation norms. Admissions for the rest 15% seats would be from the AIPMT national merit list,” said principal secretary (health and medical education) Pradipta Mohapatra.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, will hold the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) / Pre-Dental Test (AIPDT) on 4th May, 2014.
The exam will be conducted for admission to MBBS and BDS courses across the country for the academic session 2014-15.
