Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained

“I am surrounded by test tubes, spatula and chemicals. I’ve been tied up with a rope, I can infer they are planning to butcher me, dissect me. My future’s being subject to perturbing glare of official terminology, jargon and gobbledygook. I’ve survived through multiple experiments, and hope to remain unscathed this time too. Nearby, I can see ashes and clouds of gas emanating as a result of some chemical reaction that I can hardly decipher.”

 These are not the squeaks of a rat in a biology laboratory, but the random musings of 2013 batch, rightly the proverbial guinea pig, the sacrificial lamb. Déjà vu, anyone? Believe me, before this I never felt triskaidekaphobia, the fear of number 13.

Here’s the catch : FYUP (Four-year Undergraduate programme), as the name suggests, adds a year to our study. It encompasses, inter alia, those much debatable exit options, multifarious excisions and inclusions in curriculum, wild-card entry of maths, English, History, and Geography as “foundation courses”.

Amidst the clouds of uncertainty and impending chaos , I suggest we look for the silver lining. And, I am NOT talking about laptops. Let’s be sanguine that the next four years prove to be enriching, intellectual experiences. I attended a seminar on the same, and returned home convinced about noble intentions, and optimistic about its implementation.

And don’t forget, we are made for challenges (rather, challenges are made for us, never mind).We are Columbus, always venturing into uncharted territories!!!
