North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology was established by the Indian Government as the Science and Technology Institute.
The NERIST Entrance Examination (NEE) is conducted for admissions at three Levels:
1) NEE-I
2) NEE-II
3) NEE-III
The NERIST entrance examination is conducted at various centers located in the eight North Eastern States of India which are:
1) Arunachal Pradesh
2) Assam
3) Meghalaya
4) Manipur
5) Mizoram
6) Nagaland
7) Sikkim
8) Tripura.
The selection of students is done in order of merit under various reservation categories. NERIST was initially a project of the North Eastern Council which provided a system of education to create technical manpower.
North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology (NERIST) was established by Indian Government as the Science and Technology institute. NERIST was founded by late Sh. Giyani Zail Singh, the former president of India, on 4th March 1984 in order to provide a system of engineering education.NERIST institute has been given the "Deemed University" status by UGC on May 31st, 2005 and it started functioning as a Deemed University from December 13th, 2005. But it was opened for students in the year 1986.
Degree Courses Offered by North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) are:
1) Agricultural Engineering (AE)
3) Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
4) Electrical Engineering (EE)
5) Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)
6) Mechanical Engineering (ME)
NERIST NEE 2012 - Eligibility Criteria:
NERIST NEE 2012 Eligibility
- The candidates should have passed metric (10th standard) or an equivalent examination with Science and Mathematics as a subject of study.
- The candidates appearing in qualifying examination or whose results are awaited can also apply.
- The candidate should not be more than 19 years of age as on 1st August of the year of admission. Relaxation of 5 Years and 3 years is there for SC/ST/PH candidates and OBC and female candidates, respectively.
NEE-II For Engineering and Technology Stream
- The candidate should have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as a subject of study from a recognized Board.
- The candidate should have passed 10+2 Vocational program in Electronics/ Farm Machinery & Equipment / Electrical / Refrigeration & Air Conditioning / Automobile Technology/ Structure & Fabrication Technology/ Computer Science OR NERIST Certificate (E&T).
- Such candidates are only eligible to seek admission in Computer Science and Engineering or in their respective branches.
- For Forestry stream - The candidates should have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as a subject of study from a recognized Board. Or, The candidate should have passed 10+2 vocational program in Forestry/ Horticulture or NERIST Certificate in Forestry. * The candidates, who are appearing in the qualifying examination, or are waiting for their results, can also apply. The maximum age of the candidate should be 23 years as on 1st of August of the year of admission. Exemption of 5 Years and 3 years is there for SC/ST/PH candidates and OBC and female candidates, respectively.
NEE-III for engineering and Technology Stream
- The candidate should have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as a subject of study from a recognized Board. Or, The candidate should possess three years diploma in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering or Mechanical engineering or even in their allied branches with minimum 60% aggregate marks.
- The candidates, who are appearing in the final year of qualifying examination or whose results are awaited can also apply.
- The upper age limit of the candidate is fixed as 40 years as on 1st of August of the year of admission. Exemption of 5 Years and 3 years is there for SC/ST/PH candidates and OBC and female candidates, respectively.
Age Criteria: 23 years for GE, 28 years for ST/SC/PD and 26 years for OBC and female applicants as on 1st August, 2011.
