The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2015) exam has commenced, with the first phase being conducted on Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1. The other phases will be conducted on February 7 and 8, during forenoon and afternoon sessions on alternate weekends (Saturday and Sunday). The papers which are left are Computer Science & Information Technology (CS), Electrical Engineering (EE) and Civil Engineering (CE).

The first phase covered topics like agriculture, mechanical, electronics and communications, and chemical engineering. Students found the difficulty level of the test to be average. There are two test sessions on each day - Forenoon (9 am to 12 noon) and Afternoon (2 pm to 5 pm). Candidates need to note that the examination for all the 22 papers of GATE 2015 will be conducted as Computer Based Test (CBT).

Some important points before entering the evaluation hall:

 

Aspirants have to carry the admit cards to the evaluation hall. However, electronic diary, mobile phone, electronic gadgets, blank papers, clip-boards and log-tables will not be allowed in the examination venue. There will be no arrangement for the safe-keeping of personal items of the examinees. The GATE 2015 exam-takers will be allowed to use their own non-programmable calculator for the examination. Moreover, the on-line virtual calculator will not be available for GATE 2015. Candidates will be provided scribble pads for rough work and these have to be returned after the examination.

The GATE 2015 examinees may need to undergo biometric verification. Randomly selected candidates will have their biometric information of both photograph and fingerprints captured. At the end of the three-hour window, the computer will automatically close the screen from further actions. Candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination hall for any reason during the test. Candidates are allowed to leave the computer laboratory where the examination will be conducted only after the closure of the test.
