A National Seminar on Frontiers of Research in Physical Science (celebrating 100 years of superconductivity and Rutherford Model of the atom) was held between December 22 and 24, 2011 at Karimganj College in Assam. This event was organized by the Department of Physics, Karimganj College, Karimganj in Collaboration with Department of Physics, Assam University, Silchar. The event was sponsored by UGC, DST, and INSA.

Participants for this national seminar in Karimganj included research scholars from Assam University and professors from various colleges and universities.

The world of Science celebrated 2011 as the centenary of the discovery of Superconductivity & the Rutherford model of the atom. Hence the national seminar on Frontiers of Research in Physics was celebrated with much zeal in Karimganj, Assam. Besides imparting education in the seminar on physical science, the purpose of the seminar was to share and discuss new emerging ideas and challenges in different branches of Physical Sciences and nurture young talents in a creative environment and inspire them to join the main stream of advanced research. And that is why a common platform was created wherein scientists and researchers, working on contemporary areas in Physical sciences could discuss free-flowing ideas.
