The National Law School was established in 1986 after combined efforts of the Judiciary, Bar Council of India, the Karnataka Bar Council, the Bangalore University and the Government of Karnataka. The Law School has undertaken many research projects funded by the UGC, the Government of India, the Government of Karnataka, the Department of Women and Child Development, the UN agencies, the World Bank, HIVOS etc. These have served to strengthen research and teaching at the Law School.

The National Law School holds exchange programmes with the National University of Singapore, Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada and Buceuius Law School, Germany. Visiting professors and judges from countries like U.S.A., Canada, U.K., Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, South Africa, Malaysia and New Zealand have added value to the quality of education imparted here.

Notification for Admission to Research Programmes in M. Phil, Ph. D, LL.D at National Law School 2012

Eligibility Criteria

  • Master’s Degree through regular mode (distance education mode not eligible)
  • It is not mandatory for the student pursuing the research programme to be based out of the college campus. After the course work, the selected candidates will be assigned a Supervisor at the NLSIU campus, whom they have to be in constant touch with.


Admission Test Details for National Law School India University

The written admission test to study law in India in NSLIU comprises of two papers:
 

  • Paper I – Research Methodology
  • Paper II – Research Proposal – specific paper


Each paper will carry a maximum mark of 100 and a candidate will need to score a minimum of 50% marks in each paper to qualify for the oral presentation before the expert panel.

M. Phil

  • Registration Fee: Rs. 15,000
  • Examination Fee (at the time of submission of thesis): Rs. 10, 000
  • Continuation fee upto 2 years: Rs. 7, 500
  • Re-submission of thesis: Rs. 7, 500
  • Pre-registration fee: Rs. 7, 500


Ph. D/ LL. D

  • Registration Fee: Rs. 20,000
  • Examination Fee (at the time of submission of thesis): Rs. 15, 000
  • Continuation fee upto 2 years: Rs. 7, 500
  • Re-submission of thesis: Rs. 10, 000
  • Pre-registration fee: Rs. 15, 500
